Thrown’s Unwanted is the Swedish nu-metal phenom’s second release on Arising Empire Records. The band has built impressive momentum and is already made up of seasoned festival veterans, tirelessly performing across Europe and even making appearances in the United States.
This review may sound a little biased because the band is from my favorite place in the world: Stockholm, Sweden. But let’s get into it.
Thrown has a distinctive sound and doesn’t stray far from its downtuned instruments, groovy riffs, and filthy breakdowns. This is what metal should feel like: unapologetically heavy, with no filler and no unnecessary nonsense.
Vocalist Marcus Lundqvist delivers some seriously killer screams, and honestly, there’s no need for clean vocals. The guitarist writes simple yet powerful riffs, while the drummer fits perfectly into the mix. I love the chemistry between this quartet.
Unwanted is an easy listen because there isn’t much distinction between the tracks. However, sometimes less is more. Thrown understands its musical identity and stays firmly in its lane. I respect bands that know what they want to sound like and commit to it.
The opening track, “Critic,” comes in brutally heavy and sets the tone for everything that follows. I love when a band comes out swinging on the first track. The title track is another total banger—one I could easily listen to two or three times in a row.
This is a short review because that’s exactly what this album deserves: no filler and no bullshit. Unwanted is direct, heavy, and easy to listen to from beginning to end. Fans of metalcore and nu-metal should consider this a must-have for their record or CD collection.
I give Unwanted a solid 7 out of 10 horns. 🤘
Stay heavy, friends!
